FAQ

Why is the Fresh Face Cleanser consistency thick/goopy?

Our cleanser definitely has a unique consistency (like honey), but that's only because it's a super-concentrated formula and not diluted with water like most other products. We do this for a couple of reasons:
  1. A higher concentrated formula means the ingredients are more effective and there's less filler in the bottle.
  2. Without water, it helps prevent oxidation keeping the formula fresher, longer.
If you're finding it a little goopy for your liking, you can add a bit of water before applying it to your face to thin it out.

What is the pH of Fresh Face Cleanser?

The pH of Fresh Face Cleanser is 5.5. The formulation is designed without the use of soap detergent or alcohol so it’s designed to actually maintain the natural pH balance of the skin thus not drying it out.

What are saponified oils?

Saponification refers to the process by which a vegetable or plant oil is turned into soap! It's a simple reaction that occurs when an oil, like coconut, olive or jojoba is mixed with an alkali and results in two products: soap and glycerin.

The alkali that are used to mix with oil when making soap have changed a lot in the last 300 years. Modern day alkali are naturally occurring sodium hydroxide, which creates a bar soap or naturally occurring potassium hydroxide which creates a soft or liquid soap.

Is the Coconut Oil Comedogenic?

Coconut oil when applied as a moisturizer can clog pores. However, the coconut oil in our Fresh Face Cleanser is saponified to make it into a soap-like ingredient to act as a gentle cleanser and remove makeup, dirt and excess oil. It’s a much gentler way to cleanse than detergents and alcohols which is why our cleanser does not make your skin feel stripped or dry. Since you’re washing off the cleanser, there is no saponified coconut oil remaining on your skin.
